Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 15
By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:
The Muslim coalition against terrorism, which united 32 countries and which is headed by Saudi Arabia, will be of symbolic character, coordinator of the News Academy of the Turkish Anadolu agency Cihangir Isbilir told Trend Dec.15.
He said that the coalition has been established within the legal framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), but if one studies the list of countries that are members of the coalition, one can see that it included not all the members of the OIC.
One can say that over the last five years, the OIC has not stepped up its efforts to resolve the conflicts in Muslim countries, said Isbilir.
It is not clear how the "Muslim coalition against terrorism" will fight terrorism, he said.
"The future plans of the "Muslim coalition against terrorism" are unknown, as the countries, which it includes, haven't decided whether they will take a defensive position or participate in military operations against terrorist organizations," said the expert.
He believes that military operations alone in the fight against terrorism are not enough.
Unfortunately, double standards in the world exist even in the fight against terrorism, said Isbilir.
"While Russia states that it carries out military operation against terrorists in Syria, there is plenty of evidence that the Aerospace Defense Forces of Russia bombed positions of the moderate opposition," said the expert.
He said that the countries that fight terrorism and radicalism must also take steps to identify their causes.
On Dec.14, Saudi Arabia formed Islamic military coalition of 34 countries in the fight against terrorism.
