1 million, 10 thousand refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) have been registered for today in Azerbaijan, Vice вЂ" Premier, chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPsp, Ali Hassanov stated on 24 June at the news conference, Trend reports.
These statistics cover 1988-2005. There are currently 700,000 IDPs and 311,000 refugees, from which 250,000 refugees, driven out from Armenia, 50,000 вЂ"from Middle Asia, Meshetian Turks and 11,000- refugees from third countries, Hassanov said. These categories of
persons had been accommodated in 68 towns and regions of the country and reside in 1650 compact settlements and camps.
According to Ali Hassanov, due to the policy pursued by the government, from the earlier existing 12 camp settlements, 5 of them have already been liquidated, construction of settlements for the IDPs is underway, from 4 such camps, 3 camps will be liquidated early the next year. In 12 settlements, 52,000 IDPs resided, from which 21,000 have already been accommodated in new settlements .
