The state of health of blogger Alexander Lapshin, who is under arrest in Azerbaijan, is under constant control, Faig Gurbanov, the head of Department of Human Rights and Public Relations of the country’s Ministry of Justice, told reporters in Baku June 21.
He said that state of health and detention conditions of each prisoner in Azerbaijan’s penitentiary institutions are in the spotlight.
“The Main Medical Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Justice monitores this, and if anyone has health problems, a team of doctors is invited and measures are taken to fix problems,” Gurbanov added.
Alexander Lapshin is a citizen of several countries and has had a criminal conspiracy with Armenians in the occupied Azerbaijani territories. He also illegally visited these territories.
Lapshin is accused of violating Azerbaijani laws on state border in April 2011 and October 2012. On Jan. 17, Alexei Stuk, deputy prosecutor general of Belarus, issued a ruling on Lapshin’s extradition to Azerbaijan. Lapshin was brought to Azerbaijan on Feb. 7.
