RESOLUTION ON AZERBAIJAN ADOPTED AT CONFERENCE OF IDU LEADERS

Etibar Mammadov, the member of the �Yeni Siyasat block, leader of the Azerbaijani National Independency Party, (ANIP) participated at the conference of the International Democratic Union (IDU) leaders in Washington from 18 to 19 July, Trend reports.

The meeting of the ANIP leaders is held every 3 years to determine the direction of the activities of the organization and elect head structures. The conference focused on issues of democracy in the world.

The participants of the conference adopted the Washington declaration and conducted elections to the leadership of the IDU.

Prime-minister of Australia John Hovard was elected the chairman of the IDU, Foreign Minister of Norway Yan Peterson вЂ" the first deputy chairman, Leader of ANIP Mammadov and Prime-minister of Greece Kostas Karamanlis вЂ" deputies. Member of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Horan Lenmaker was appointed the assistant of the chairman.

The headquarter of the IDU was also moved to Norway. The roundtable discussion on issues of democracy was organized under the chairmanship of George Bush at the White House on 19 July.

The IDU members held meetings at the National Security Council, State Department, International Institute of Republicans, Institute of National Democracy. According to Mammadov, resolution No 326 was adopted concerning Azerbaijan.

The IDU members consider holding of free and democratic elections in Azerbaijan, and keeping the OSCE recommendations on elections important.
