Super iMAX, a subsidiary of Korea Telecom, commissioned a network of broadband Internet technology 4G LTE TDD in Uzbekistan starting from April.1, the company told Trend.

The representative of the company said that until April 15, the company will simultaneously provide services both under the current technology WiMAX and the new 4G LTE TDD in Tashkent, after which the old network will be removed.

At the first stage, the new network will be used only in Tashkent, and during the 2015 Internet access service using 4G LTE TDD technology will become available for subscribers of Samarkand, Bukhara and other cities of Uzbekistan. In 2016 it is planned to cover the entire territory of the country by the new network.

Uzbekistan became the first country in the CIS to deploy LTE TDD, according to the company.
It was previously reported that the cost of the project is $10 million.

Super iMAX was established in October 2007 with the participation of Korea Telecom and Sumitomo Corporation Korea Ltd. with stakes of 60 percent and 40 percent respectively. Later, Sumitomo Corporation Korea Ltd. withdrew from the founders list.

Currently, the Super iMAX is in the sole possession of Korea Telecom.

Super iMAX has licenses for designing, construction and operation works, and for rendering services to local and international telecommunication networks and data transmission networks.

The operator provides wireless Internet access employing the WiMAX standard under the EVO brand. Since 2008, Korea Telecom has invested $21 million in the development of the IT technologies in Uzbekistan.
