Some 1.5 million metric tons of cotton are planned to be collected in Turkmenistan, the government of Turkmenistan said.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to start cotton harvesting in Ahal, Lebap and Mary regions on August 29 and Dashoguz region - September 6.
Cotton is an important export item of Turkmenistan. It is the important raw materials for dozens of modern textile enterprises dynamically developing in the country.
Ashgabat annually hosts an international exhibition-fair of cotton items of Turkmenistan. It was reported in late October 2014 that more than 1.5 million metric tons of cotton were collected in Turkmenistan.
