Passenger traffic ups through TRACECA’s Azerbaijani sector

Some 253.3 million passengers were transported through the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) in January-September 2016 that is by 2.4 percent more than in the same period of 2015, Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee said in a message November 11.

According to the message, some 37.15 million tons of cargo were transported via TRACECA through Azerbaijan’s territory in January-September 2016 that is by 5.4 percent less than in the same period of 2015.

Some 63.2 percent (23.5 million tons) of the total volume of the transported cargo were transported by vehicles, 27.5 percent (10.21 million tons) – by trains, 9.3 percent (3.44 million tons) – by ships, the message said.

According to the message, some 14.9 percent (5.52 million tons) of cargo accounted for transit traffic.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the sphere of transport among the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
