SOCAR conducts operations in Kazakh sector of Caspian Sea

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) conducts engineering-geological operations in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, a source in oil and gas market said.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) conducts engineering-geological operations in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, a source in oil and gas market said.

According to the source, at present engineering-geological vessel "Zohrab Veliyev" is conducting operations in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.

The source said the Kazakh side has already extended the annual contract for the provision of the services by SOCAR. The operations in the Kazakh sector will be conducted periodically within the year.

The source called the structure "Nursultan", which is located on the block "N" as one of the prospective structures in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, in which SOCAR conducts operations.

KazMunayGaz national company has discovered signs of hydrocarbons on N field (Nursultan) in the Kazakh section of the Caspian Sea, KazMunayGaz head Kairgeldi Kabildin said earlier.

The N block is located 75 kilometers south of the Aktau city on the Caspian Sea. The block area is more than eight square kilometers.

The field is consisted of major (western) and shell-sea (eastern) parts. The water depth within the field ranges from 0 to 340 m. The deep part is in the southeastern part of the block.

KazMunaiGas (KMG) is the operator of the "N" project with 51 percent. Other participants are the U.S. oil company ConocoPhillips (24.5 percent) and the Arab state investment company Mubadala (24.5 percent).
