Iran will start gasoline production, meeting the Euro 4 standards, on Tuesday, which will reduce exhaust emissions of cars from 50 grams for ordinary gasoline to 7.2 grams per kilometer, the head of the Environment Organization of Iran stated.

Mohammad-Javad Mohammadizadeh told the ILNA news agency that by the end of the next year (March 2013), the Euro 5 standards will be applied in gasoline production processes in the country.

A number of petrochemical projects will come on stream by the end of spring (June 21), boosting the country's gasoline output by around 20 million liters per day, the National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company's managing director said earlier this month.

Four development plans will come on stream by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2012), boosting the country's gasoline production capacity to 70 million liters per day, Mehr news agency reported.

According to the official governmental data, Iranian gasoline imports have slumped by as much as 95 percent over the last four years and lower fuel subsidies help neutralize western sanctions aimed at starving Tehran of fuel.

Iran has launched a jet fuel production unit at the Shazand Oil Refinery, with the daily production capacity of some 6 million liters, meeting the Euro 4 standard, an official with the National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said on Saturday.

Speaking to the Mehr news agency, Rashid Seyedian added that the unit is producing 4.2 million liters of premium jet fuel in the first phase.
