By Seba Aghayeva – Trend:

Vietnam is interested in implementation of joint projects with Azerbaijan in the energy sector and putting investments in the country’s oil and gas sector, said Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Vietnam Anar Imanov in his interview with Trend.

Both sides consider the energy cooperation as a promising and strategic direction of bilateral cooperation, said Imanov.

“This fact has been noted more than once, even at the highest level, in the various meetings and negotiations,” he added. “The Vietnamese side invites the Azerbaijani side to implement joint projects and invest in the country’s oil and gas sector, including the joint development of fields, improvement of relevant infrastructure, and construction of power plants.”

The diplomat said the upcoming meetings and negotiations between the two countries’ governments on these issues will help define concrete directions of cooperation, including the investments.

“Undoubtedly, this is a two-way road, in other words, it is not only about the investments by the Azerbaijani side,” noted Imanov.

“Of course, there is prospect for Vietnamese investments in Azerbaijan’s economy,” he said, adding that Vietnamese companies, operating not only inside, but also outside the country, are already appealing to the Azerbaijani embassy.

“As it is known, thanks to the purposeful policy of the Azerbaijani president, all opportunities for robust business activities, including investments, were created in our country,” noted the ambassador.

Investments in Azerbaijan are protected by the state, he noted.

“I think that in the near future, we will see Vietnamese investments in Azerbaijan,” added Imanov.

The diplomat also said that a number of big Vietnamese companies have already expressed their interest in investments in oil and IT sectors.

“Considering all this, there is a need to establish direct contacts between business communities of both sides in order to define the areas of cooperation,” noted the ambassador.

Trade turnover between Vietnam and Azerbaijan amounted to $67.678 million in January-September 2016, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
