GEORGIAN FUEL, ENERGY MINISTER EN ROUTE TO BAKU

Nika Gilauri, the Georgian Minister for Fuel and Energy will arrive in Baku on Thursday evening with an official visit, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Azerbaijani Ministry for Industry and Energy. Gialuri plans to meet with Mejid Karimov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Industry and Energy, on Friday.

During the visit the Georgian Minister is expected to hold talks on delivery of gas to Georgia, in particular with the Shah-Daniz consortium and the Azerbaijani government.

In compliance with existing contract, Georgia will receive 800 million cu m of natural gas a year via the route by 2011 in transit fees for gas transported via its territory, as well as gas which the country can purchase at discount prices.

During the talks the Georgian government intends to clarify the volume of natural gas to be purchased additionally. It is not dealt with reconsideration of existing contract or granting Georgia with additional privileges, but purchase of additional volumes of natural gas at market prices defined for tat period.

Besides, during the visit Gilauri will discuss prospects and directions of the Azerbaijani-Georgian relationships in the sphere of power engineering, the company said.

According to Marlen Asgarov, the senior engineer of the Azerenergji, now Azerbaijan and Georgia do not carry out permanent energy exchange due to absence of an appropriate agreement.
