Astana, Kazakhstan, March 17
By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend:
Brussels hosts discussions on expansion of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union, the press service of Kazakh Economy and Budget Planning Ministry said on March 17.
"Here the matter rests in the fifth round of talks on a new agreement on expansion of partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU. Under the agreement, Kazakhstan and the EU expect to increase the scope and range of cooperation areas between the parties," according to the message.
Given the perspective of Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and deepening of integration within the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, the renewal and modernization of trade and investment and economic sections of the new agreement is of particular interest.
Basing on the agreement Kazakhstan and the EU share the desire to create a new and strong legal framework for deepening cooperation under the global competition conditions and given the economic and geopolitical interests of the parties.
This was confirmed at the highest level during a meeting of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev with the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in June 2013 during Barroso's first official visit to Kazakhstan and in January 2014 on the sidelines of the Davos forum.
Development of a new agreement was first such a decision for the EU taken in post-Lisbon period, and Kazakhstan is the only country in the Central Asia reaching a qualitatively new stage in the dialogue with the EU.
