Barama Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of Azercell Telekom LLC continues its successful activity. Two projects of the Center have received “Azerbaijan Women in IT Award — AWITA 2017” by “Femmes Digitales — Azerbaijani Women in IT Club” (AWIC).

Launched for the first time in Azerbaijan, the award went to “TechSos” project developed by Aytaj Aghabeyli and Gunay Abdullayeva in the nomination of “Startup of the year” and “Wowoman TechTech khanim” project in the nomination of “IT group of the year/IT education program/IT educational project”.

The award ceremony in 15 categories took place in International Mugham Center. The winners were selected by the judging panel comprised of the experts from various public agencies, ICT companies, universities and media outlets.

The Women in IT Awards is Azerbaijan’s largest event dedicated to tackling gender imbalance in IT industry. It does this by showcasing the achievements and innovation of women in technology, identifying new role models and promoting further dialogue around diversity among industry influencers.

Azerbaijan Women in ICT Club – FEMMES DIGITALES was established in 2014 with a goal to bring together women working in ICT sphere at public and private companies, as well non-governmental organizations to increase their professional participation and support their career development efforts in this rapidly developing industry.

The leader of the mobile communication industry of Azerbaijan and the biggest investor in the non-oil sector Azercell Telecom LLC was founded in 1996. With 48% share of Azerbaijan’s mobile market Azercell’s network covers 80% of the territory and 99,8% of population of the country.

Currently, 4,5 million subscribers choose Azercell services. Azercell has pioneered an important number of innovations in Azerbaijan, including GSM technology, advance payment system, 24/7 Customer Care, online customer services, GPRS/EDGE, M2M, MobilBank, one-stop- shop service offices Azercell Express, mobile e-service “ASAN signature”, etc. Azercell deployed first 4G – LTE services in Azerbaijan in 2012.

According to the results of mobile network quality surveys of Global Wireless Solutions company and international systems specialized in wireless coverage mapping such as “Opensignal” and “Testmy.net”, Azercell’s network demonstrated the best results among the mobile operators of Azerbaijan.
