The Azerbaijani economy did not any serious effects from the global financial crisis in terms of unemployment, Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said today.
"If the number of unemployed people in Azerbaijan was 525,000 10 years ago, today the figure is 260,000," Valiyev said.
He added that according to the International Labor Organization, any individual who works at least one hour per week cannot be classified as unemployed.
Based on the committee's data, as of April 1, the number of unemployed people in the country was 40,800 people, of whom 43.7 percent are women.
