Turkmenistan, Iran to mull economic co-op

Turkmenistan's official delegation will take part in a meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian Economic Cooperation Commission, to be held July 26-27 in Tehran, said the message from the Turkmen government.

The delegation will be headed by the Turkmen deputy prime minister and the foreign minister, Rashid Meredov. A corresponding decree on this was signed by the country's president, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Earlier it was reported that, according to the Iranian side the annual volume of mutual trade between the two neighboring countries stands at about $5 billion, and in the coming years it could double.

During the years of their long-term cooperation, Turkmenistan and Iran implemented a number of large-scale joint projects.

Iran also buys electricity from Turkmenistan.
