At least 791,400 Azerbaijanis visited Iran during the first ten months of Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2016-Jan. 20), Majid Samadi, head of Iranian Immigration and Passport Police Office, said.
Iraqi citizens topped the list of tourists who visited the Islamic Republic in the 10-month period with 1.199 million people, Samadi said, IRIB news agency reported.
Azerbaijani and Afghan tourists stood at the next places, he said, adding that over 550,700 Afghani citizens travelled to Iran during the first 10 months of current Iranian fiscal year.
Samadi further said that over 1.267 million foreigners arrived at Iranian airports in the 10-month period, 5 percent more year-on-year.
He added that 379,393 Iranians also used airports to visit abroad in the period.
Samadi said that 2.792 million foreign tourists visited Iran passing the border checkpoint during the first ten months of the current fiscal year.
At the same period 3.956 million Iranians travelled abroad via border checkpoints, he said, adding that the figure indicates a 29-percent rise year-on-year.
Samadi said that number of foreigners legally residing in Iran reaches 2.969 million.
