An Iranian official succumbed to his injuries a few hours later he was attacked by gunmen, Iranian IRNA news agency reported Oct. 11.

Bahram Bashandeh, the head of Social Affairs of the governor office in Iranshahr city of Iran's south eastern Sistan and Baluchestan province was attacked early morning on Oct. 11 by two unknown gunmen in front of his house.

He was going to work when two unknown persons wearing municipal employees' uniforms opened fire at him from firearms.

He was hit by 3 bullets in abdomen, according the report.

Bashandeh was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery.

According to the hospital sources the surgery was successful. However, the official died two hours later due to severe injuries.

In a similar incident last November, Mousa Nouri, the attorney of Zabol city in the Sistan and Baluchestan province was gunned down.

The region witnessed several clashes between the rebel groups and Iran's security forces in recent months.

Some 4 police officers were killed in 2 attacks in Saravan city Oct. 8-9.

On Sept. 9 Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) thwarted armed Baluchi rebel's attack on a border base in Saravan.

The rebels were trying to seize the border base, however, the IRGC forces alongside with Baluchi Basijis (volunteer militia) repelled the attack, the IRGC said.
