IAEA Chielf Yukiya Amano met Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in Tehran today, ISNA reported.
Amano arrived in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials on "issues of mutual interest and a closer cooperation" between Iran and the IAEA.
Herman Nackaerts, the IAEA deputy director general for safeguards, and Rafael Mariano Grossi, the assistant director general for policy, accompany the UN nuclear body's chief on his trip to Tehran.
Earlier today, Amano already met Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Fereidoon Abbasi. Later today he's scheduled to meet Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
Amano's visit comes ahead of the May 23 talks between Iran and the P5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The latest round of the talks between Iran and the six members of the P5+1 group was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.
