A new head of the Committee for Water Resources was appointed at the Kazakh Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the ministry said on April 22.

"Islam Abishev was appointed chairman of the Kazakh Committee on Water Resources upon Kazakh Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov's order dated April 21, 2014," according to a statement.

Earlier, the committee was headed by acting chairman Bolat Bekniyaz.

Islam Abishev was born in the Kutcha village, the Chinaz district, Tashkent region, Republic of Uzbekistan on May 12, 1956. He graduated from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute in 1978.

He was a governor in Ordabasy district of South Kazakhstan region, deputy governor in South Kazakhstan region, governor of Ust-Kamenogorsk and chairman of the Committee on Water Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture (2012) in different years.

It should be stressed that President Nazarbayev signed a decree on restructuring the Kazakh Ministry of Environmental Protection into the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on October 31, 2013.

The ministry will deal with the functions to form and to implement the state policy in the field of water supply to water users or their associations, as well as rational and integrated use of groundwater.
