The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has put Iran in the 75th place among 187 countries in its latest Human Development Index Report (HDI).

The country has lost two positions in 2013 compared to 2012, according to the UNDP's report released on July 24.

Norway, Australia and Switzerland topped the ranking list of the countries, meanwhile Niger, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic placed at the bottom of the list.

The HDI is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education levels and income indices used to rank countries' national achievement in the mentioned fields. The report scores the countries with a value from 0 to 1 point.

The UNDP publishes annual HDI reports since 1990 under a specific name.

"Sustaining human progress: reducing vulnerability and building resilience" has been chosen for the 2014 report.

Iran's value in HDI for 2013 was unchanged at 0.749 from 2012, meanwhile the country's place has fallen from 73 to 75. However the country has improved its position by 10 places from 2008.

According to the report, Iran's life expectancy at birth is 74 years, and gross national income per capita is $13,451 (based on purchasing power parity (PPP) rates for GDP from World Bank (2014) and on GDP deflators and GNI per capita in national currency from United Nations Statistics Division-2014).

Iran's value in HDI for 1980 was 0.49. The value increased to 0.552 and 0.652 by 1990 and 2000 respectively and stood at 0.725 in 2010 and remains approximately in same level so far.

Alongside with Iran the report also puts Turkey with rank of 69 and Azerbaijan with rank of 76 among the countries with high human development, meanwhile Iraq (120), Uzbekistan (116) and Turkmenistan (103) are in medium human development category.

Pakistan and Afghanistan with rank of 146 and 169 respectively stood among the countries with low human development in the UNDP's HDI report.
