Forbes magazine published on Monday its annual ranking of the world’s most powerful women in the world, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on top of the list.

Forbes magazine published on Monday its annual ranking of the world's most powerful women in the world, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on top of the list.

"This election-year '2016 Global Leaders' list honors these women, who join seasoned pros such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, number-one Power Woman for six years running," the magazine said in a statement.

Former secretary of state and current US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton holds the second place in the ranking, while head of the US Federal Reserve System Janet Yellen is on the third place.

The wife of American business magnate and co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates, Melinda, holds the fourth place on the list.
