New Zealand’s governing National Party has elected Bill English, the former deputy prime minister, to succeed John Key as the country’s prime minister, Sputnik reported.

Bill English was elected as the country's new prime minister, as Paula Bennett was voted to become his deputy.

It added that English would announce a cabinet reorganization during this week. Key announced his resignation on December 5 after eight years in the office.
