Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 January /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Green Party of Azerbaijan will begin demonstrations regarding the problems of public transport, the destruction of green areas and Azerbaijani military service in Afghanistan, the Party's Co-chair, Mayis Gulaliyev, reported to Trend on 15 January.
"At the beginning of March, we will hold peaceful demonstrations in various parks in Baku to draw the attention of the government and community to these problems," Gulaliyev said.
According to him, special green uniforms have already been prepared for the participants of the demonstration.
The Green Party of Azerbaijan considers that due to the discomfort in public transport, the population gives preference to cars which cause traffic jams. According to Gulaliyev, constructing new bridges in Baku will not resolve this problem. In addition, he said that the existence of a large number of the cars damages the city's ecology.
Gulaliyev said that the Green Party suggests replacing small buses with large-capacity buses.
The Green Party considers that Azerbaijan should not send its soldiers to Afghanistan. The USA's Public budget totals $500bln and NATO's budget - nearly $1trln and therefore, they do not need 30 Azerbaijani soldiers, Gulaliyev said.
According to him, Azerbaijan should co-operate with the USA, not jeopardize the lives of its soldiers, but by co-operating in other spheres like development of the non-oil sector, science and technology and health.
In addition, the Green Party will establish a 'hot line' to organize the monitoring of the destruction of green areas in Baku.
Gulaliyev said that after the demonstrations, they will possibly bring the Executive Power of Baku to court due to the non-settlement of the garbage problem in Baku, as well as raising a lawsuit against the inactivity of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources which controls ecologic problems.
