Burjanadze not to Achieve Great Success in Politics: Georgia’s Former President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 October/ Trend , corr E. Tariverdiyeva/ The former speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze will not achieve a great success in Georgia, former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said.

"I think, she will not achieve a great success as she worked together with President Saakashvili during hard years of Georgia," Shevardnadze told Trend by telephone.

Former chairman of the Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze has decided to set up opposition Democratic Movement - United Georgia, she told press conference in Tbilisi.

Burjanadze abandoned policy of President Saakashvili too late, Shevardnadze said.

"If Burjanadze had abandoned it earlier, the situation would have been different. Though she is a smart woman, she was not courageous enough to quit in time," he said.

Burjanadze and President Mikheil Saakashvili were major leaders of Rose Revolution in 2004. When she was speaker of the parliament, she was member of faction of President's party. During these years, Burjanadze acted as President twice. She abandoned the policy of the current regime after the demonstration of opposition was cruelly dispersed in November 2007. Following refusal to take lead in the lists of ruling party in May parliamentary election, Burjanadze decided to set up Democratic Development Fund non-governmental organization.

Nino Burjanadze's re-established party will not be able to change political situation in Georgia, Shevardnadze said.

"I think Burjanadze will not be able to change current political situation in Georgia," Shevardnadze said.
