France, Paris, 11 November / corr Trend A. Maharramli / The 100th jubilee of an outstanding figure of Azerbaijani literature of the 20th century, scholar and teacher, Mirjalal Pashayev, was marked at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on November 10.
Director General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura made opening remarks to the ceremony. The celebration of the birthday of outstanding scholar and writer of the Azerbaijani people Mirjalal Pashayev by UNESCO is strike example of cooperation between UNESCO and Azerbaijan, which covers various areas, he said.
The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, First Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva said in her remarks that Azerbaijani people, which has rich heritage, brought up a generation of outstanding scholars. Mirjalal Pashayev is one of great sons of Azerbaijan. He left a rich literary and scientific heritage.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Hafiz Pashayev said representation of Azerbaijan in an international organization like UNESCO is a great respect for Mirjalal Pashayev's memory. "Creative work of Mirjalal Pashayev has occupied a prominent place in Azerbaijani literature and history and will live forever," Hafiz Pashayev said.
In her address Rector of Baku branch of Moscow State University Nargiz Pashayeva regarded this celebration as remarkable from the aspect of cultural ties, international relations and respect to a writer, literature and culture as a whole. "This day is particularly remarkable for me, because 100th anniversary of my grandfather is marked at UNESCO. We have never had such opportunity before. It was impossible even to think of marking the writer's anniversary in the West and UNESCO during the Soviet times. "This is very significant event," Nargiz Pashayeva said.
She said that the anniversary event was significant not only for Azerbaijanis, but also for Parisians, who got familiarization with the life and creative activities of a prominent literature figure.
Later, a film about M.Pashayev's life and creative activities was displayed. Jubilee ceremony progressed with a musical program in the performance of the Azerbaijani masters of arts.
