The UN Secretary General's Special Representative and Co-Chair of the Geneva International Discussions Antti Turunen will visit Tbilisi on Tuesday, the head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry's International Organizations Department, Sergi Kapanadze, said at briefing Monday.

Kapanadze said Turunen will participate in the next five-way meeting on the mechanism of prevention of incidents to be held in Gali on Sept.14.

The Geneva talks were convened after the armed conflict in Georgia in August 2008, in accordance with the Ceasefire Agreement of Aug.12.

Military actions began in de facto South Ossetia on Aug. 8, 2008. Georgian troops entered the capital Tskhinvali. Later Russian troops occupied the city and drove the Georgian military back to Georgia. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on Aug. 26. In response, Tbilisi severed diplomatic relations with Moscow and declared the two breakaway republics to be occupied territories.
