Turkmen President: Population census in Turkmenistan in 2012 to be exam for national statistics

The population census will be held in 2012. It will become a kind of test of the level of the National Statistics, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov told participants of the conference "State Statistics of Turkmenistan on the path of development" held in Ashgabat.

The population census will be held in 2012. It will become a kind of test of the level of the National Statistics, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov told participants of the conference "State Statistics of Turkmenistan on the path of development" held in Ashgabat.

The state programme to transfer the system of statistics on the international standards over 2010-2012 includes specific tasks for the development of national statistics system in the nearest future.

"The improvement of statistical methods in accordance with international standards, introduction of modern computer technologies for collecting and processing data, providing statistical organizations with highly qualified specialists are among these tasks," he said.

He said that the date prepared by the national statistics, along with the ability to correlate indices of macroeconomic development with the international level, are necessary for the effectiveness of public administration, the validity of decisions taken for further economic, social and cultural development.

All these data are also required to develop and analyze the national programme on the social and living conditions of population in villages, towns, cities, districts until 2020, national programme for socio-economic development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030, concepts of the regions of the country until 2012 and other state programs.

Berdimuhammedov emphasized that the systematically prepared statistical data on socio-economic development are of great importance for timely and accurate estimates of measures on state regulation of the processes of economic growth, the effectiveness of socially oriented national model of market economy, the dynamic development of sectors and regions, growth of material well-being of the people to make important decisions on these issues.

According to the principles of the proclaimed open-door policy, constructive cooperation of Turkmenistan with the world countries is steadily expanding. In this regard, statistics is important to review progress of cooperation in interstate and intergovernmental relations.

"The quality of data of economic development compared to international standards, primarily depends on verified statistics.
