More than 22,000 observes registered in Azerbaijan for parliamentary elections

A total of 581 international observers have been registered to monitor the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the meeting.

A total of 581 international observers have been registered to monitor the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the meeting.

According to him, the CEC has registered 1,205 election observers. The number of registered observers in the district election commissions has reached 20,802 people.

Panahov also spoke about registered candidates. According to him, 73 people, by submitting applications, withdrew their candidacies. CEC chairman spoke about the distribution of ballots to constituencies.

"11 district election commissions have already received ballot papers. Tomorrow the ballots will be distributed to 40 districts. The distribution of ballots in all districts will be completed by Sept. 30," Panahov said.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
