Azerbaijan is concerned over the situation in the region, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told Trend today. He was commenting the strained relations between Turkey and Syria.

"The international security issue is very important for Azerbaijan, as a member of the UN Security Council," he said. Of course, we are concerned over the tense situation created in the region. In this regard, the appropriate instructions were given to Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations."

The Turkish Parliament has today discussed issuing a mandate for cross-border military operations against Syria, Turkish media reported earlier.

At least 5 people were killed in Sanlıurfa province on Wednesday, when a mortar exploded in the town center. According to Turkish electron media outlets, Syrian government army fired at the city.

In response to the shelling Turkey bombed the site in Syrian territory, from where the fire opened.

NATO and the UN demanded from Syria to immediately cease all acts of aggression against Turkey. Syrian authorities expressed their condolences to the families of the dead and began investigating the incident.

In mid-September, a few houses in Turkey have already suffered from Syrian shells. Three people were injured then.
