Azerbaijan, Baku, June 3 / Trend, R. Hafizoglu /

Continued anti-government protests in Turkey could lead to creation of an anti-government coalition by opposition forces, Turkish expert Nevzat Çiçek told Trend.

According to him, the ongoing Turkish protests are not of an economic nature, as some believe.

Some Turkish media writes that the protests unfolding in different cities have to do with tough fight against alcohol and tobacco products initiated by the Erdogan government.

"Protest rallies against Gezi Park's destruction are currently aimed at overthrowing the government," the expert said.

He believes if the government does not soften its stance and make concessions, the situation in the country could get even worse.

According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, some 58 people were injured and over 730 people have been detained.

According to Turkish media, protest rallies are ongoing in several cities.

A group of protesters tried to seize the building of the Turkish ruling party in the Turkish province of Izmit on the morning of June 1. Local police dispersed the demonstrators.
