There are no Azerbaijani citizens among the victims of the terrorist attack in Istanbul, Azerbaijan's consulate general in the city told Trend Jan. 12 citing a preliminary report.

Azerbaijan's Embassy in Turkey and Consulate General in Istanbul are keeping in touch with law enforcement agencies of Turkey and continue to check whether there are Azerbaijanis among the explosion victims.

An explosion occurred in the central square of Istanbul Jan. 12. Reportedly, the explosion occurred near the central mosque when tourists were passing by.

Some Turkish media reported that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber attack, but so far there has been no official statement regarding the incident.

It was reported that a suicide bomber blew himself up near foreign tourists.

Ten people were killed in the explosion according to preliminary reports, said the Turkish media. Citizenships of the blast victims haven't yet been established. There are police officers among the wounded.

The work of subway stations in the city was suspended after the explosion.

Police fear a second blast.
