BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Armenia's constitution needs to ditch territorial claims against Azerbaijan, Russian MP Sergei Markov told reporters, Trend reports.

He emphasized that the Karabakh issue has been fully resolved.

"Azerbaijan has regained full control over Karabakh and all the surrounding areas that were also occupied by Armenia. However, the Prime Minister of Armenia is now blocking the possibility of signing a peace treaty. It seems that the whole world is urging him to come to Baku for COP29 and sign the peace treaty.

Yet he is obstructing the signing. There are clear, absolute conditions: amendments must be made to the Armenian constitution to exclude any claims of territorial disputes with Azerbaijan regarding Karabakh. However, he has decided not to do this and to postpone it to 2027 along with a general constitutional reform, which is clearly sabotage," said Markov.

Previously, Armenian Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan announced that a constitutional referendum in Armenia is planned for 2027.

He mentioned that detailed work on the complex document is required, and there will be public discussions.

Besides, the MP noted that initially there was a debate about whether to amend the existing constitution or adopt a new fundamental law, and ultimately, the latter option was chosen.
