BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. The European Commission has approved over €380 million in funding for 133 new environmental and climate action projects across Europe under the LIFE Program, Trend reports via the Commission.
This funding covers more than half of the total €574 million required for these initiatives, with the remainder to be financed by national, regional, and local governments, public-private partnerships, businesses, and civil society organizations.
The LIFE projects are instrumental in advancing the European Green Deal’s key objectives, including the EU’s goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Key areas of the LIFE program receiving support include:
-Circular Economy and Quality of Life: €143 million (with €74 million from the EU) to fund 26 projects aimed at reducing water use, industrial and household waste, air and noise pollution, and promoting reusing and recycling practices.
- Nature and Biodiversity: Close to €216 million (€144.5 million EU contribution) for projects to restore ecosystems, improve the conservation of wildlife, and protect habitats.
-Climate Resilience and Mitigation: Approximately €110 million (nearly €62 million from the EU) to enhance climate resilience, mitigation efforts, and climate governance.
- Clean Energy Transition: €105 million (€99 million EU contribution) to accelerate governance and market solutions for Europe’s clean energy shift.
