21th Meeting on Culture Cooperation in CIS Commences

The 21th meeting on culture cooperation among CIS member-states began in Baku on 9 October 2006, Trend reports.

Culture Ministers of Azerbaijan, Belorus and Russia represent their countries at the gathering, while the rest countries will be represented by senior officials of the Culture Ministers and Ambassadors accredited in Baku.

The agenda includes 9 issues, including the perspectives of cooperation in the culture, humanitarian, joint scientific-methodic projects of CIS ember-states Cupola of Commonwealth', Legend of Commonwealth'.

During the meeting it is planned to discuss the major measures to be taken by CIS member-states in the sphere culture in the period by 2010.

In his opening remarks the Azerbaijan Minister for Culture and Tourism, Abulfaz Garayev noted that over the past period much has been done within the framework of the Council for the upgrade of cooperation in the sphere of culture. These measures are backed by CIS heads of state.

Azerbaijan, as a country chairing at the Council, intends to further put every effort for development of cooperation in this sphere. The Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Samat Ordabayev noted the significance of the development of cooperation of CIS countries in the humanitarian sector, noting that it will preserve the maintenance of the bridge of friendship' among the countries.
