Latvia Collects Finances for South Caucasus

On December 13-15, a conference will take place in Zurich regarding the co-ordination of the assistance rendered by the donor-countries to South Caucasus. The conference is held by the Defense Ministry of Latvia which implements the functions of the head of this international initiative this year, Trend reports quoting BNS.

The goal of the conference is to co-ordinate the bilateral assistance provided to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia in the sphere of defense to assist in successfully implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plans with NATO. These plans envisage reforms that should be held by the South Caucasus countries. During the working sessions of the conference, the participants will hear the reports of the South Caucasus countries regarding the reforms held in these countries with regards to the defense and security, and inform the assistance which the donor-countries plan to provide next year. The primary goal of the working sessions is to prevent the doubling of the assistances and help broader support of NATO to the reforms held by the South Caucasus countries in the sphere of defense and security.

The conference will bring together the representatives of 20 donor-countries and countries of South Caucasus, NATO, international training centers, as well as Moldova , which after confirming the Individual Partnership Action Plans with NATO intends to create the same mechanism of the bilateral assistance.

The conference is held twice a year.
