Manuchohr Mottaki, the Iranian Foreign Minister, said in Astana that a summit of Caspian member-states will be held in Tehran in the first quarter of 2007, Trend reports citing RIA-Novosti.
"We have conveyed an invitation by the Iranian President to the head of Kazakhstan for the participation in the summit. Nursultan Nazarbayev accepted the invitation" Mr. Mottaki said.
Earlier, Mehdi Safari, the Iranian President special envoy on Caspian Diplomacy, said that Tehran regards expedient the conduct of the top meeting of the Caspian littoral countries in Iran, even if the Convention on Caspian legal status is unready. "There are issues concerning regional cooperation and security that could be discussed at the summit, Mr. Safari said.
