First Stage of Land Reforms in Azerbaijan Completed

The Chairman of the State Committee for Land and Cartography, Garib Mammadov, said in an exclusive interview with Trend that the first stage of the land reforms in Azerbaijan completed.

According to him, there are 2,032 collective farms and state farms in the country, and three forms of ownership have been created: state (56,9%), municipalities (23,5%) and private (19,6%). Three farms have remained in Azerbaijan without reforms: Gazimammad farm of Gusar district, farm named after M.A.Sabir in Shamakhi district and farm of Caspian Shipping Company in Khachmaz district.

There are lands of the local self-government bodies (municipalities). Mr. Mammadov said that according to the data of year 1999, 2,666 municipalities were created in Azerbaijan and today their number reached 2,740.

Another work that the Committee caries out is linked with the homestead lands (250,000 ha). In 1990, near 55,000 hectares were captured by the population. Presently, 50% of the illegally captured homestead lands have been returned.

Mammadov said that the work goes on working out land cadastres, which require certain finances. In addition, presently the World Bank allocates $40 mln credit for the project of registering real estate.
