The Chairman of the Organizational Committee of Azerbaijan Democratic Party for Preparation to the Congress, Sardar Jalaloglu, stated on 19 February at a press conference that the 9th Congress of Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) will take place in May 2007, Trend reports.
On 18 February, the supporters of ADP Chairman, Rasul Guliyev, held a meeting of the ADP High Assembly and made a decision to conduct an extraordinary session of the party in April 2007.
Jalaloglu said that this session is not a congress and has no relation with ADP. During the joint sitting of the ADP Organizational Committee and Central Control & Inspection Commission, a decision was made to dismiss ADP Chairman, Rasul Guliyev from the Party.
At present the opposition Azerbaijan Democratic Party is the member of Azadlyg Political Block. The Chairman of ADP, created in 1991, ex-Speaker of Azerbaijan, Rasul Guliyev, has been living as an emigrant since 1996.
