Report of PACE Co-rapporteurs for   Azerbaijan to be Discussed on 28 March

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend A.Gasimova / Co-rapporteur of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), Andreas Herkel, informed Trend that the opinions of Azerbaijani on the new report of the co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee for Azerbaijan will be discussed on 28 March in Strasburg.

According to him, the Monitoring Committee received the response from the Government of Azerbaijan on the report, but he has not familiarized himself with the document as yet. He added that this would take place on 28 March at the meeting of the Committee.

Answering the question of what measures may be taken considering that the Government of Azerbaijan expressed its dissatisfaction on several items within the report, Herkel replied that he may express his opinion only after becoming familiar with the document at the next meeting.

On 5 March the Head of the Social-Political Department of the Executive Apparat of Azerbaijan President, Ali Hasanov described the report as subjective in several aspects, in particular Tony Lloyd and Andreas Herkel's report on the issues of political prisoners and elections.

According to Ali Hasanov, the problems which belong to many countries of the Council of Europe are reflected as specific for Azerbaijan in several sections of the report.
