Azerbaijani Frontier Guards Detained Over 40 Internationally-Wanted Terrorists

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. K. Zarbaliyeva/ Elchin Guliyev, the Chief of the State Frontier Service, told journalists that since 11 September 2001 until now, guards of the Azerbaijani Frontier Service have detained over forty internationally-wanted terrorists.

Mr. Guliyev said that according to this statistic, Azerbaijan has taken first place in the world in apprehending terrorists. Over this period, Azerbaijani frontier guards have detained and taken measures against about 150 persons suspected for participating or cooperating with international terrorists.

According to the Chief of the State Frontier Service, on the whole, over the past five years, Azerbaijan frontier guards detained 4,361 state border trespassers, 13,303 trespassers of the frontier regime, and 2,035 persons wanted by police. In the reporting period, the Frontier Service of the Country seized contraband worth a total sum of AZN 6mln. In the reporting period, a total of 107 kg of narcotics and narcotic substances, and over 221t of narcotic plants and other forms of narcotics were incinerated. Last year, for example, Azerbaijani guards seized 907gr of white mercury.
