Popular Front of Unified Azerbaijan Party to Establish Election Block

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The Popular Front of Unified Azerbaijan Party (PFUAP) will establish an election block involving several parties on the threshold of the forthcoming presidential elections, the Chairman of the PFUAP, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, said.

PFUAP jointly with the Evolution Party are represented in the Union of National-Democratic Forces (UNDF). Several parties applied for membership to the Union and preliminary talks have been held. The membership of the UNDF will be expanded and the Union will function as an election block. Within a year the block will be presented to the public probably under another name.

The Deputy Chairman of the PFUAP, Elchin Mirzabeyli, reported that the party advocates participation of Hasanguliyev in the elections. Probably, it is him who will be nominated as a single candidate from the election bloc.

"So far political parties have failed to achieve success through participation in the elections as a group. It is a time to reject old standard models. We advocate unification of political forces not around a leader, but around an ideology. The block is to be established by the PFUAP and will serve this purpose. After consent is achieved in national strategic issues, a new candidate will be named," Mirzabeyli noted. According to him, the PFUAP sees Hasanguliyev as the candidate.

In 2001 a group of members from the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party (PFAP) under the leadership of Hasanguliyev separated from the party and held their own united congress. By 2004 the party was known as 'uniting' wing of PFAP. Later the party changed its name to PFUAP. The party received State registration in 2005. Hasanguliyev is an MP in the Azerbaijani Parliament.
