Court Reject Lawsuit against Azerbaijani Mukhalifat Newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief and Journalists

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr К.Zarbaliyeva / The Yasamal District Court of Baku rejected the lawsuit against the editor-in-chief and journalists of the Mukhalifat newspaper.

The court made the decision on the lawsuit brought by the reporter of the Public TV and Radio Broadcasting Company (ITV), Amina Rahimova, against the detained editor-in-chief of the Mukhalifat newspaper, Rovshan Kabirli, and journalist Yashar Agazadeh, as well as Mehrali Iskandaroglu, the founder, and Ilgar Valiyev, the editor-in-chief, of the Kriminal alam newspaper.

Under the lawsuit Rahimova demanded to punish the defendants with Article 147.1 (slander) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. Rahimova demanded to fine AZN 50,000 on the Kriminal alam and AZN 30,000 on Mukhalifat.

Iskandaroglu was sentenced to correction for one year, and Valiyev was fined on AZN165.

Kabirli and Agazadeh were sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison by the lawsuit brought by MP Jalal Aliyev.
