On 22 November 1918 the Charter of the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was confirmed.
According to the 11 November 2000 order of the former President of Azerbaijan, the confirmation day of the Charter of the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic became a holiday for justice employees.
After the occupation of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on 27-28 April 1920 by the XI Red Army of Azerbaijan, according to the 13 May 1920 decision of the revolution committee, the Justice Ministry was dissolved. A Popular Justice Commissariat was established. However, in 1930 the Commissariat was also dissolved and its functions were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office, Supreme Court, Central Executive Committee and other organizations.
The Supreme Council of Azerbaijan SSR made the decision on 27 October 1970 to establish the Justice Ministry.
