Baku to Host Religious Leaders’ Second Universal Summit

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 April / Trend corr S. Agayeva/ The second universal summit of the religious leaders will take place in Baku in October 2009. The agreement was made in Moscow during the meeting between the religious leaders of the Caucasus Muslims Sheik-ul-Islam haji Allahshukur Pashazade and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Aleksy II and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

The meeting discussed the creation of the advisory council at the UN. The working groups will be created in the near future to study the details of the council. It was decided that the Muslim religion will be represented at the UN Advisory Council by the clerical leaders of Azerbaijan, Jordan and Iran, Pashazade said to journalists on 12 April.

"This is a high estimate reflecting strong trust and respect for Azerbaijan and for the religious tolerance policy pursued by the country's government," Pashazade said.

Pashazade said he had invited Ban Ki-moon to visit Azerbaijan.
