Azerbaijani Broadcasting Council Makes Warning to Local TV Channels

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 June / corr Trend E.Babayev / The National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting made an oral warning to two local televisions channels Lider and ANS, Nushiravan Maharramli, the chairman of the Council, told Trend on 26 June. Lider violated the requirements of the Law on TV and Radio Broadcasting with respect to advertisement.

Several days ago Lider demonstrated advertisement reels of alcohol drinks till 11:00pm.

In accordance with the article on advertisement of the Law on TV and Radio Broadcasting, the alcohol drinks can be advertised after 23:00. The Rules of the Council specify that in case of violation of the law, initially oral warning is made to the television channel. However, it might be followed by a written warning should the case is repeated for the second time. If the violation continues despite of warning, then cancellation of the license can be considered.

Maharramli said that the violation of terms and rules of a license by ANS was being discussed. "Some technical faults were fixed in ANS. The channel did not officially register the frequency of broadcasting in Jalilabad District," Maharramli said.

There are seven private and one state television channel in Azerbaijan.
