Deputy Justice Minister: New prison to be built in Azerbaijani region

A new prison will be built in the northern region of Azerbaijan (Shabran, Siyazan, Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz), Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief of the Prison Service, Nazim Alekperov, told media
"Negotiations with the relevant executive authorities are held to allocate sites for the construction of a new prison," Alekperov said.
He said that a new prison being built in Sheki is expected to be commissioned later this year.
"Construction of prisons continues in Lankaran, Ganja and Kurdamir. A detention facility was built in 1980 in Ganja. It does not meet standards because of its location in the heart of the city," he said.
Alekperov, a prison for juveniles will be transferred to a new building at the end of the year.
"New prisons for juveniles and women are being constructed near the detention centers in Baku now. The construction of new prisons for women will be completed next year. Prisoners will be transferred to a new building," Alekperov said.
