The Prosecution General's Office is investigating a criminal case on the genocide of Azerbaijanis committed by Armenians during the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic in 1918-1920. The case has been filed, First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov told media.
A criminal case on genocide was filed for deliberate murder, Usubov said.
He said the investigation committee's documents were taken from the archives to inform the world about the Armenian atrocities. The materials were translated into English, French and Russian and sent to international organizations.
The Armenian Dashnaks who seized power under Stepan Shaumyan's leadership in March 1918 killed tens of thousands of civilians.
According to a decree signed in 1998 by Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev, March 31 is Azerbaijani Genocide Day.
