Baku to host symposium on contribution of Azerbaijanis to victory in World War II

Baku will host a symposium on the contribution of the Azerbaijanis in the victory in World War II, head of "Yahad-In Unum" organization located in France Patrick Desbois said a press-conference on Thursday.
He said the symposium, scheduled for October will be dedicated to a discussion of such facts as death during the Second World War at the front of half a million Azerbaijanis, the contribution of Azerbaijani oil workers to the victory, granting asylum by Azerbaijan to thousands of Jews from Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
For scientific exchange in connection with studies that are carried out on these issues, experts- historians from the U.S. and Europe will be invited at the symposium, he said.
The visit of "Yahad-In Unum" delegation to Azerbaijan aims to discuss the Holocaust, endured by the Jewish people during the Second World War, and the Khojaly tragedy of the Azerbaijani people at the end of XX century.
Mr Desbois noted the importance of joint research and bringing to the world scientific community by the local and Western historians such facts as the resettlement of Jews to Azerbaijan and the support Azerbaijan gave during the Second World War against Fascism.
He said he witnessed the good relations between Muslims and Jews during his visit to Guba.
