German scientists study Azerbaijan's tectonics

Brigitta Muller and Mark Tingai, scientists of Karlsruhe University with Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, are in Baku.Trend reports with reference to press service of earth sciences department with National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the aim of their visit is continuation of studies of tectonic tensions in earths crust. These studies are made under World tensions map project implemented jointly by Geology Institute with NASA and Karlsruhe University.

Back in 1986, German scientists have put forward an idea about creation of world tension maps and the long-tem project was implemented for this purpose under the supervision of Professor Friedman Wenzel. Azerbaijans joining this project includes drawing its part of said World tension map.

The Azeri project manager is Akif Alizadeh, director of Geology Institute, and project coordinator is Bahruz Panakhi, head of Seismology department. Apart from the Institute, the project involves BP, SOCAR and other foreign oil companies operating in the republic.

At the moment geophysical materials the project participants submitted are being interpreted using the unique software Karlsruhe University specialists developed.

Besides, Azeri scientists shall pursue the second tour of training bin Germany in order to raise their skills in this sphere.
