Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Mammadov / Zakir Guliyev, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Melioration and Water Industry, investigated ways to improve the coastline protection along the Mingachevir reservoir and presented his recommendations.
The gross capacity of the Mingachevir reservoir made up 16 mln cu m in which melting snow in the mountains caused the water level in the reservoir to rise to 600 mln cu m.
The water level in the junction of the Kur and Araz rivers decreased to 2cm. Currently, 500 cu m of water per second flows from the reservoir into the Araz River.
According to Guliyev, the level of water will drop in the near future. To prevent a natural disaster he excluded the possibility of cleaning the Kur delta. The houses built along both sides of the river hinder the possibility of cleaning the river of build-dup.
